SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Holiday shoppers alert. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is offering a blue-light special: a free personal safety course for women aged 18 and up.
Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says each includes a Friday evening session about how to avoid being a victim and a Saturday morning firearms class. Dates are Oct. 7-8, Nov. 4-5 and Dec. 2-3.
Prator says the class at Sheriff's Safety Town covers financial crimes like identity theft; property crimes like burglary and home invasions; crimes against persons such as robbery and physical assaults; and safety while traveling.
The Saturday class at the Regional Training Academy covers personal safety tips and firearms familiarization. Participants learn about concealed carry laws and gun safety and participate in supervised shooting.
