St. Martin Parish Officials lifted mandatory evacuations in parts of Butte Larose. Officials say it was necessary to evacuate but the decision to let residents return came after water levels turned out to be not as bad as first expected. Some residents believe they should have never left home. Steven Obrien has lived in Butte Larose for 20 year. Obrien says evacuating was a waste of time and money. He returned to a dry home and neighborhood. "They forced us to leave and there was no water. I'm not leaving the next time," said Obrien.
Paula Chavez evacuated with her brother, Raymond Prejean. They also believe evacuating wasn't necessary because their homes are dry too.
"We wasted lots of money on carpet because we ripped it out of our homes," said Chavez.
