On Monday, April 22, 2013 at approximately 2000 hours the Broussard Police Department responded to a major vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of US 90 and St. Nazaire Rd. Upon officers arrival they observed two vehicles involved; one with severe damage. Witness of the crash said that the 2000 Buick Lesabre driven by (Douglas Hebert, 33 YOA, of Youngsville, LA) was traveling on Albertson Pkwy when he disregarded the traffic control signal indicating he could only turn right on US 90 by driving straight across the intersection and ended up colliding with a 2012 Dodge Ram Pickup that was traveling west on US Hwy 90 and had a green light. The driver (Chris Henderson, 53 YOA of Lafayette, LA) was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that Hebert was traveling on Albertson Pkwy when for unknown reasons he went straight across US 90 where he was only supposed to turn right, he continued through the intersection and entered into the path of the westbound 2012 Dodge Pickup. The passenger door of the Lesabre was severely damaged indicating a direct right angle impact. It appears as though Hebert was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Alcohol involvement is unknown at this time, but tests are being conducted to determine.
