Tucked away on a back road in Broussard lies the Wat Thammarattanaram, a Buddhist temple which is celebrating its newest addition.
After 3 years of construction--"Ordination Hall" is complete.
The building is "supported" by a Laotion community of about 800. Inside the ordination hall is a jade statue of Buddha, recently imported from Thiland.
Hundreds of Buddhist pilgrims flocked to the hall to offer up their prayers, quite literally, as spires that had been blessed by the monks were raised to the top of the hall.
This is where new monks will be ordained and blessed here.
And it's not just monks getting blessed here, if you happen to visit the courtyard yourself, you can boost your karma and receive a blessing from the monks yourself.
By bringing an offering to the monks, you can receive a blessing in a part of Acadiana unlike any other.

Phanat Xanamane explains the process by saying, "you can just stop by the temple right before lunch and every day there's people that come from the community that come and contribute and give offerings to the monks. It's a daily ritual. They'll actually cook food for the monks and give the monks a meal, and in return they give the ones that contribute blessings."

If you happen to make a trip over to the temple, remember...this is a place of worship. Wear modest clothing, Silence your cell phones, and as Buddha teaches--be aware of your thoughts, words, and actions.
