VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - Chicot State Park is closing its three boat launches because the lake has been drawn down for routine inspections and repairs on the bridge over Walker's Cove.
Sharon Broussard, spokeswoman for the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, says the launches are closing Monday because the water is too low for safe boating.
She says the Department of Transportation and Development opened the lake's control structure after Labor Day and has been letting the water fall a few inches each day to a suitable working depth.
The bridge work will be done in the first two weeks of October, once the mud line is dry enough to work on.
Broussard says that once all the repairs are done and the lake is high enough, fishing in Lake Chicot will be reopened.
