JEAN LAFITTE, La. (AP) - Jefferson Parish officials say the
state transportation department expects to reopen a bridge at the town of Jean Lafitte to vehicles this weekend - though it will remain closed to marine traffic.
In the meantime, there will be regular ferry service during the day, and a single ferry available for on-call.
The swing bridge was hit by a barge on Tuesday.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is providing shuttle van service on the Barataria side to take people from the ferry sites to their homes or businesses.
The parish and town have vehicles and people on both sides of the bayou for round-the-clock medical, fire and law enforcement emergency services.
