The thought of families who won't have enough food for Thanksgiving dinner is almost impossible to imagine, but many families around Acadiana face this reality.
Junior ROTC cadets at Breaux Bridge High School wanted to do something to help needy families in their community.
"We do all this because our motto in JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. One of the great ways to be a better citizen is to give back to the community in any way we can," cadet Reginald Wiltz said.
Students gave three families an eight-pound box full of everything they will need for a Thanksgiving dinner.
It was a community effort, the Breaux Bridge Police Department helped the cadets make the deliveries, and the Saint Martin Parish School Board helped them find families in need.
This is just one of many good deeds the cadets have done this year.
By the end of the year, they'll earn 180 hours of community service, and 18 hours of college credit.
In five years, the ROTC program has given $4 million dollars in scholarships to students.
