Breaux Bridge Elementary School is under a soft lockdown at this hour.
According to St. Martin Parish School Superintendent Lottie Beebe, the school's principal put the lockdown in place as a precaution after police received reports of shots fired in a nearby neighborhood. Beebe says no threats were directed at the school and that students and faculty are not in danger.
Breaux Bridge police say they are still monitoring the area near the school. Assistant Chief Terry Latiolais says detectives have not found any evidence of shots being fired. An investigation into what happened is ongoing.
