BR police chief seeks to refine officer etiquette

Police Chief Carl Dabadie says he has made it a priority in his young administration to improve the way officers are communicating with the people they serve.
Dabadie told a meeting of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club Wednesday the biggest complaint the department receives is the way officers talk to the public.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, says the department is looking into hiring a private company to teach officers better communication skills.
Dabadie, who was sworn in about two months ago, is known among his peers as a disciplinarian who has not hesitated to suspend wayward officers.
Beyond fulfilling their normal duties, Dabadie says, officers should be willing to change tires for stranded motorists and rescue cats from trees.
