BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board has approved spending $586,000 to renovate classrooms on the second floor of Istrouma High School.
Just two months ago, the board voted to delay the construction at the high school over the objections of Superintendent John Dilworth.
The Advocate reports Istrouma High School is a possible target for state takeover unless the school system persuades the state to renew a memorandum of understanding it has to operate the school.
The renovations were postponed because some board members were concerned about whether Istrouma High School will be taken over by the state.
After Thursday's meeting, board President Barbara Freiberg said talks with the state continue, but the high school needs the renovations, regardless of who runs it.
