BP has invested $125,000 to train more than 150 south Louisiana 4th and 5th grade teachers in the Activities Integrating Math and Science (AIMS) program. The teachers; who are from Jefferson, St. Mary, Vermillion and Iberia parishes; will receive hands-on training in innovative math and science experiments that will improve their students' understanding and retention. Teachers will also receive all the materials needed to implement the training in their own classrooms.
This investment from BP is part of the company's ongoing commitment to supporting quality science, technology, engineering and math initiatives that establish the skills necessary for students to one day enter and succeed in the oil and gas industry and engineering fields. BP previously implemented the AIMS program in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes and the town of Grand Isle. With these additional training sessions, BP's sponsorship of the AIMS program will reach more than 5,000 Louisiana students during the 2013-14 school year.
Four BP-sponsored AIMS training sessions will take place across south Louisiana July 16-18:Tuesday, July 16
