LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A 24-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested in connection with the Monday death of an 18-month-old child.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso tells The American Press Efrem "Jay" Ogwin was booked Wednesday with second-degree murder.
Mancuso said officials at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital contacted his office on Monday after the child was brought in by his mother and Ogwin, her live-in boyfriend.
Dr. Terry Welke, the parish coroner, said the autopsy revealed signs of "foul play." He said the child died as a result of multiple injuries.
State Judge Wilford Carter set Ogwin's bail at $300,000 on Wednesday.
It was unclear whether Ogwin has an attorney.
