Boy killed while crossing I-10 in Metairie

METAIRIE, La. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a truck while crossing Interstate 10 in Metairie.
State police identified the victim as Jeremiah Williams of LaPlace.
Trooper Melissa Matey tells The Times-Picayune Williams was being taken in a state van Tuesday to Southeast Louisiana Hospital in Mandeville for a medical appointment.
Matey says there was an altercation in the vehicle and Williams got out when van pulled to the shoulder of the road.
She says Williams safely crossed all five lanes of traffic from the right shoulder to the concrete median and was on his way back to the van when he was hit.
