Boxers identified in case where Lafayette deputy, child were bitten

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department has released an update in their investigation involving a child and deputy being bitten by a dog. The dogs are now confirmed to be Boxers and not Pit Bulls, as originally reported by deputies. Residents on the street and deputies alike mistakenly identified the breed.

Sheriff's deputies say the identity of the owner is now known and possible charges against the owners are being considered. Two of the three Boxers have been located and are in the custody of the Lafayette Animal Control Office where there are evaluating the animal. Deputies now believe that one of the Boxers could have been struck by a car on LA Hwy 92 near the scene. This dog is being treated by the staff at Lafayette Animal Control. The dog that was shot by the deputy immediately after the dog bit him has not been located at this time.
