Just over two weeks to go before the runoff between U.S. Reps. Charles Boustany,R-Lafayette, and Jeff Landry,R-New Iberia, the Boustany campaign released the results of an internal poll, which shows their candidate with a strong lead.
Commissioned by the Boustany campaign, the poll was conducted between November 11-12 by Public Opinion Strategies, and involved a sample of 400 likely voters in the third congressional district.
Among all those surveyed, the poll shows Boustany leads Landry 56% to 29%. Among the Republicans surveyed, Boustany leads 53% to 37%.
The Landry campaign is not phased by these numbers. Brent Littlefield with the campaign released the following statement: "In August, Charles Boustany said based on the same polling he would defeat Jeff Landry by 30 points. On election day, Charles Boustany said he was going to defeat Jeff Landry and the campaign was over. Neither was true, none of the polling is accurate, just like the false statements Charles Boustany has made throughout the campaign."
Littlefield also called the poll "wildly inaccurate," citing polling within the Landry campaign. When asked for those numbers, Littlefield said as a matter of policy the Landry campaign does not release such polls.
Early voting for the district 3 runoff begins Saturday, November 24th and lasts through December 1. Voting hours are 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at your Registrar of Voters office.
