Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement today after recently learning of House plans to move forward on legislation to authorize 27 major medical facilities proposed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) during the past two years. Among these clinics are two located in Lake Charles and Lafayette:
"As author of the legislation clearing the bureaucratic log jam putting these 27 clinics in limbo, I applaud the House Veterans Affairs Committee for its decision to move forward. Delays in the construction of these clinics force more than 3,000 South Louisiana veterans to travel in excess of three hours to receive needed care. If Congress fails to act, it will jeopardize access for more than 340,000 veterans across 22 states. House and Senate leaders should stop offering excuses and authorize these needed clinics before the end of the year. I will continue building bipartisan support on Capitol Hill in order to deliver these clinics to our brave veterans in South Louisiana."
