NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A watchdog group - Citizens for
Responsibility and Ethics in Washington - has released it's annual list dubbed the "Most Corrupt Members of Congress." Both Louisiana senators are on it.
Democrat Mary Landrieu made the list for accepting $30,000 in campaign contributions in 2001 from employees of an education-related company that benefitted from an earmark she placed into a spending bill. The earmark funded a reading program in Washington, D.C., schools. Landrieu has said the program was highly regarded and the contributions did not influence her.
The group also listed Republican David Vitter, saying he has yet to be held accountable after his phone number appeared in 2007 among phone records of a prostitution ring. Vitter has refused to discuss the issue.
