BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) Bossier City has raised its sewer rates.
The Bossier City Council voted Tuesday to increase city sewer rates by a flat $8 fee per user within the city limits, and a $12 increase for each user outside of the city limits. Bossier City sells water to many users, including whole neighborhoods and subdivisions, outside of its boundaries.
The Times reports the rate increase approved by the council will be used to pay for a $20 million rebuilding of the "headworks," the intake station to the city's major sewer plant off the Red River. That structure collapsed last August after more than 30 years of being eaten from the inside by corrosive sewer gases.
