Bond refused for Larry Caillier

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) Larry Caillier II has been denied bond on child pornography charges during a preliminary examination and detention hearing in federal court in Lafayette.

Federal Magistrate Michael Hill's decision came Wednesday after nearly two hours of testimony.

The 32-year-old former Opelousas High School teacher and former Opelousas alderman is being held in a St. Martin Parish facility on charges of production of child pornography, using a facility of interstate commerce to produce child pornography and possession of child pornography.

According to investigators, the charges stem from an interaction Caillier had with a student in which the two allegedly exchanged explicit texts and photos by cell phones.
