The State Bond Commission is giving the green light to the Iberia Parish School Board to issue $22 million in bonds.
According to State Treasurer John Kennedy, this will allow the school board to fund projects while still saving tax payers nearly $700,000 in property taxes.
Iberia Parish Schools Superintendent Dale Henderson says those bonds are part of the $50 million bond proposition approved by voters in October 2013 to fund capital improvements at schools around the parish. Among the projects being funded by the bonds are the auditorium for Jeanerette Senior High School, new athletic complexes for New Iberia Senior High and Westgate High Schools, a new junior high wing at Loreauville High School, technology upgrades, and new security systems at the parish's elementary schools.
