Louisiana Water Company has experienced a mechanical failure at the New iberia Water Treatment Plant which has caused a loss in pressure in the distribution system. They are asking all customers to reduce their water use until the water system pressure is back to normal.
Because of this problem, the water produced by the water supply system may be compromised. As a precaution, they have issued a Boil Water Advisory effective immediately. This Boil Water Advisory is to remain in effect until further notice.
Louisiana Water Company has met with DHH and issued the precautionary advisory. Louisiana Water Company is currently taking 60 different water samples and placing them into an incubation process that will take 24 hours. All of the samples are expected to be in the incubation process between 11:30am and 1pm Friday. After the 24 hour incubation process, Louisiana Water Company will advise the public on whether or not they can lift the boil water advisory after 2pm Saturday. Until that notice, residents are advised to continue to boil water.
It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it )including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.
Again you are advised to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
Louisiana Water Company will rescind this boil advisory upon verification that additional water samples collected from the water system has shown that the water is safe.
Residents may reach Louisiana Water Company by calling 337.365.0002 during the hours of 9am-4pm or (337.) 364.3023 after hours.
