According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Detectives with the Sheriff's Office, State Fire Marshalls Office, Acadiana Crime Lab and State Police Auto Theft are investigating the cause of death associated with that of a body found in a burning vehicle early this morning on Adier Road north of Abbeville.

Sheriff Couvillon says that the Sheriff's Office responded to call from 911 around 12:29am and once the fire was extinguished by Abbeville Fire Department, a body was found within the vehicle.

Sheriff Couvillon also stated that Detectives are attempting to confirm the identity of the person found in the vehicle, and an autopsy will be conducted to help determine the cause of death.

Sheriff Couvillon further stated that additional information will be made available once the identity of the victim and cause of death have been confirmed, however in the early stages of the investigation, evidence at the scene suggest that foul play may have been involved.

Anyone with information with regards to this investigation is asked to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Criminal Investigations division at 898-4403 or 898-4406.
