Brandi Mitchell's boyfriend, 30-year-old Russell Lambert Junior, was found dead around 2:00 in the morning at the corner of Moss Street and Donlon Avenue on Monday. Detectives say he was stabbed once. "They didn't have to kill him, he had kids and a family," said Mitchell. Mitchell says Lambert got into a fight with someone last Sunday at a club. " When I talked with him yesterday about it, he said nothing happened since last Sunday."
Neighbors say they didn't hear or see anything suspicious last night. Since Lambert's body was discovered, police have been combing the scene and searching underground. "They are not only canvassing but also speaking to witnesses who live in the area to identify the suspect in Lambert's death," said Corporal Paul Mouton with Lafayette Police Department. Family members say they'll feel better when they find out who did it. Until then, loved ones like his younger brother say they're holding on to good memories. "He'll be missed. He taught me everything I know," said Alonzo Morgan, the victims brother. "He loved his kids and he loved me. He wasn't just my childrens' daddy, he was my best friend. And it hurts, it's killing me and I don't know how I'm going to tell my children," Mitchell said.
