BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - A giant blimp that hovers above the

Gulf of Mexico in search of oil and broken boom is coming to

Louisiana.

Government spokesman Duane DeBruyne said the blimp will be

transfered Tuesday from Gulf Shores, Ala. to the Naval Air Station

in Belle Chasse, south of New Orleans.

The 178-foot-long blimp typically hovers about 300 to 500 feet

above the water and can come to an almost complete stop.

Observers in the blimp can radio directly to boats below when

they see oil, boom or even distressed wildlife that needs

attention. It's operated by a Navy contractor and staffed by the

Coast Guard.
