Blankets, concert to help Sandy victims

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans is collecting blankets and organizing a concert to help East Coast families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Blankets are being collected at the New Orleans Healing Center on St. Claude Avenue, and the city's musicians are headlining a "NOLA Pay It Forward" benefit concert with proceeds going to nonprofit organizations assisting in Sandy relief and recovery efforts.

The lineup includes multi-instrumentalist Ivan Neville, trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, jazz singer Stephanie Jordan and Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw, as well as a number of brass bands and Mardi Gras Indians.

The concert will be held Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. CST, at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans.
