The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries caught a black bear in a trap set near Lydia. Maria Davidson with DWF says the bear was captured Thursday off LA 83. According to Davidson, a bear family was recently in the area, but it has since moved on.
Davidson says bears are seen near Lydia when sugar cane has grown tall because bears use those fields as travel corridors. She says the area has seen an unusually high amount of bear activity for this time of year. Davidson adds that the bears should return to their natural foods once berries become ripe.
