There's been an unexpected increase in business for an industry that's always booming this time of year. With Mardi Gras less than two weeks away, its no surprise that king cakes are selling like hot cakes. This year, the purple, green and gold are taking a backseat to the black and gold.

At Meche's Doughnut shop and Gambino's bakery that's definitely the case. Both owners say they have workers putting in overtime to meet the black and gold demands. "The championship game brought 500 orders. Normally we see 500 cakes for the Super Bowl. This year we estimate over 1000 cakes," said Meche's Manager Melanie Netto.

Gambino's manager Eli Tate agrees, "We've been icing everything in Black and Gold. This weekend we've been getting a lot of requests for the black and gold Saints king cakes."

Meche's will be open on Super Bowl Sunday from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gambino's however is closed. So, if you'd like to get their black and gold king cake you better hurry.
