The City of Youngsville wants to build a bike path on Chemin Metairie Parkway. "We have a tremendous demand," Mayor Wilson Viator said. Viator says the bike lanes would be on each side the parkway. He says the road is busy with weekend cyclists, so much so, every Friday a street sweeper cleans trash and debris along the road to clear the way for weekend riders.
The Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization would help secure federal funding for the trail through the federal Urban Systems Funds. "The project itself shouldn't take long, but the process to get the funds from the federal government to Youngsville will take between 18 and 24 months," Metropolitan Planning Organization Planner Jennifer Severson said.
Construction, she says, could begin within the next 18 to 24 months.
