This Saturday in New Orleans, The Murphy Memorial Match will take place to help raise money for the families of Nicole, Kellie and Brian Murphy, of Lafayette, who were in a crash in South Africa during the World Cup.
Nicole Murphy died in the crash. Her brother, Brian Murphy remains in critical condition in South Africa following the accident. Also injured in the accident was their sister Kellie, who suffered a concussion.
A special fund has been established at Home Bank to help cover the family's medical expenses. It is unclear if the family's insurance will cover any expenses because the accident happened in a foreign country. The cost of transporting Brian Murphy home could be more than $300,000.
The benefit match will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Louisiana Avenue Field at Tchoupitoulas Street. Admission is on a donation basis, with $25 being charged per player. Donations can also be sent to the Murphy Family Support Fund at Home Bank.
Checks can be dropped off at any Home Bank location or mailed to Home Bank, Account No. 2057873802, Attn: Murphy Family Support Fund, P.O. Box 81459, Lafayette, LA, 70598.
