Beef Leads to Stabbing Outside of Burger King

Around 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, the Opelousas Police Department was notified of a stabbing at in the 900 block of Creswell Lane. When officers arrived on the scene, they were notified of the suspect, Murphy Tyler, 23, (1107 Colliieard Street in Opelousas), was no where to be found, but a description led to his apprehension.

According to Opelousas police, the motive for the stabbing stems from an altercation between the two men that occurred while both were housed in the OPD jail just a few weeks ago. On Saturday afternoon, Tyler observed 24 year old Benjamin Baker of Opelousas, in the Burger King restaurant and allegedly waited for him to exit. Once Baker left the restaurant Tyler approached him, pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed Baker once; puncturing his lung. Baker suffered from a single stab wound to the left side of his chest.He was transported to OGHER. He is listed in stable condition.

Murphy Tyler, was located near the intersection of Evergreen and Stardust Streets in Opelousas. Upon apprehension, officers also located the knife used in the cutting.

Murphy Tyler has been booked in the OPD jail for Att. 2nd Degree Murder, he will go before a magistrate on Monday.
