BBB of Acadiana alerts consumers to 3C Millworks

The Better Business Bureau of Acadiana is alerting consumers to 3C Millworks, a Ville Platte wood flooring company.

The company opened in October and came to the BBB's attention in November for several reasons, including using the registered name of the Better Business Bureau and having one complaint filed against the business.

The business location is not accredited by this BBB and our policies as well as federal trademark laws prohibit such a reference without permission.

3C Millworks is not currently rated, as the BBB has recently received one or more serious complaints against this business and will issue a rating after it has fully evaluated them. The business' full BBB business Review can be found at http://www.bbb.org/acadiana/business-reviews/not-elsewhere-classified/3c-millworks-in-ville-platte-la-90008911.

The business has also falsely claimed membership or affiliation with several other local and national professional organizations on its website listings.

These include the National Wood Flooring Association, National Home Builders Association, Acadiana Home Builders Association, and the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce on www.yellowpages.com, www.superpages.com and www.business.intuit.com.

However, the BBB has confirmed with these organizations that 3C Millworks is not a member.

It has also come to the BBB's attention that this company's principals are also registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State as owners or principals in other, similar companies having poor BBB ratings due to complaints in Acadiana.

The company's agents have been connected with JDI Building Materials of Opelousas and Custom Doors to Floors of Ville Platte. JDI currently has a D- rating and Custom Doors to Floors has an F rating for underlying causes due to complaints.

This information demonstrates that credibility and reputation are extremely important to both consumers and businesses.

The BBB offers the following tips to protect consumers looking to improve their homes:
Start with trust. Do not assume that all businesses are ethical. Reputation is more than a pretty web site or a fancy showroom. Contact your BBB for a reliability report (www.acadiana.bbb.org) on the company.

Check out the competition to compare any deal you are offered and know exactly what you will receive before remitting payment for anything. Get several bids in writing.

Ask for references from recent satisfied customers and contact them to discuss the company and the work performed.

Insist on a written contract or invoice detailing exactly what will be delivered. Do not rely on what you are told; depend only on what is specified in the contract.

Review the written contract before agreeing to payment and delivery. Be sure it specifies the price and other details about the job, including the completion date and an exact description of the materials you will receive.

The BBB of Acadiana works for a trustworthy marketplace by maintaining standards for truthful advertising, investigating and exposing fraud against consumers and businesses.
