LAFAYETTE, La. - The Bayou Vermilion District is pleased to announce the opening of their fall boat tour season starting this Saturday, September 7. The fall boat tour season begins the first Saturday in September and goes through the last Saturday in November.
Visitors can experience Lafayette like they never have before-on a traditionally built bateau cruising the tidal river known as the Bayou Vermilion. The voyage begins with an introduction of the Bayou Vermilion as a historical, cultural and natural treasure. Visitors will travel upriver towards Bayou Tortue where the boat captain will provide some history as well as the geology and ecology of the river and how it formed. As visitors cruise along the river they will have the opportunity to view native plants, trees as well as wildlife like birds and alligators. They will also learn about the Bayou Vermilion District and their efforts to restore the Vermilion as one of the city's most valuable assets.
Admission for the hour and a half guided boat tour is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 62 and over) and $8 for students (age 4 to 18). For those visitors looking to make a whole day out of their visit there are packages that include the hour and a half boat tour, a self-guided tour of Vermilionville as well as lunch at La Cuisine de Maman. Admission price for the enhanced package are $30.50 for adults, $28.50 for seniors (age 62 and over) and $22.50 for students (age 4 - 18).
Boat tours are offered weather and water height permitting by advanced registration only Tuesday - Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Vermilionville dock. There is a minimum requirement of six passengers or a total fee of $60 in order for the boat to launch.
