Bayou Vermilion Districts inaugural Bayou Vermilion Festival Boat Parade

The community is invited to let the good times flow on Sunday, October 21 for Bayou Vermilion Districts inaugural Bayou Vermilion Festival Boat Parade. The Bayou Vermilion Festival boat parade is a celebration of and on the Vermilion River and aims to increase awareness of the river as a viable source of recreation for Lafayette Parish. The boat parade will take place on the Bayou Vermilion starting at Vermilionville and ending with a celebration at Cochon restaurant. The parade will consist of antique putt-putt boat owners from around the nation, a musician's barge with live music as well as local boat owners and paddlers who care to join in the parade. Register Your Boat Those wishing to register their boat to be part of the Bayou Vermilion Festival are asked to fill out the online registration form by clicking here. A minimum donation of $10 is requested per boat owner to help the Bayou Vermilion District's efforts to keep the river clean and viable as a source of recreation for the citizens of Lafayette Parish. After you register you will be contacted with instructions for participation in the parade. Register Your Canoe/Kayak Those wishing to register their canoe/kayak to be part of the Bayou Vermilion Festival are asked to fill out the online registration form by clicking here. A minimum donation of $10 is requested per boat owner to help the Bayou Vermilion District's efforts to keep the river clean and viable as a source of recreation for the citizens of Lafayette Parish. As a paddler you will have the option to row to Rotary Point boat launch, roughly about 3 miles or all the way to Camellia Bridge canoe launch, roughly about 5.5 miles. Canoe and kayak owners are responsible for transportation of themselves and their crafts to the starting point and back. After you register you will be contacted with instructions for participation in the parade. Reserve A Canoe/Kayak Those wishing to participate in the paddle portion of the Bayou Vermilion Festival boat parade, but do not own canoes or kayaks can reserve them from the Bayou Vermilion District by filling out the registration form by clicking here. We only have a limited amount of canoes/kayaks so they will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. A minimum donation of $10 is requested per reservation to help the Bayou Vermilion District's efforts to keep the river clean and viable as a source of recreation for the citizens of Lafayette Parish. As a paddler you will have the option to row to Rotary Point boat launch, roughly about 3 miles or all the way to Camellia Bridge canoe launch, roughly about 5.5 miles. There will be a complimentary shuttle service from both drop off locations back to Vermilionville. Timeline of Events The Bayou Vermilion Festival Boat Parade will kick off with a public showing of antique putt-putt boats and engines at Vermilionville beginning at 10 a.m. Antique putt-putt boat owners from around the nation will have their boats on display for the pubic to see up close as well as talk with owners about the boats. There will also be a community sharing circle beginning at 11 a.m. on the building methods of the antique putt-putt boats as well as demonstrations of the unique engines that are custom built. Part of the sharing circle will be a tribute to one of the devoted boaters, Richard "Dick" Gibbens who passed away this year. Dick was a founding member of the Bayou Antique Engine Association and the Center for Traditional Louisiana Boat Building of Lockport and will be honored as part of the Festival for his service to the boating community. 10:00 a.m. Public Viewing of Antique Boats in the Vermilionville Parking Lot 11:00 a.m. Antique Boats Panel Discussion & Tribute for Richard "Dick" Gibbens III at Vermilionville 1:00 p.m. Boat Parade Begins at Vermilionville 5:00 p.m. Boat Parade Ends at Cochon *Timeline of events is subject to change so please check back for updates* For more information or to register your boat, canoe or kayak for the parade you can call (337) 233-4077.
