A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today for the Bayou Amy boat launch located directly across from the Atchafalaya Basin western guide levee in Henderson. The project includes a boat launch, parking area and floating docking facility. The construction work was performed by Matt Durand Construction of St. Martinville and the project was designed by Comeaux Engineering and Consulting.
The cost for the construction of the facility was $561,321, with the state contributing $229,000 of that total from the DNR Atchafalaya Basin Program.
According to St. Martin Parish President Guy Cormier, the additional funding came from the St. Martin Parish Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) funds. With CIAP funds, future improvements at the site will include an educational pavilion, self-guided nature walk, and new restroom facility.
The first official boat to use the new landing in Bayou Amy driven by Mayor Sherbin Collette.
