MANSFIELD, La. (AP) - Hundreds of historical re-enactors are camped at the Mansfield State Historic Site for re-enactments this weekend of Civil War battles that took place there.
The Times reports the site museum and re-enactor camps will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Battle re-enactments will be staged at 2 p.m. each day on land near the museum.
The Battle of Mansfield was fought on April 8, 1864 between Union forces commanded by Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Banks and Confederate soldiers under command of Maj. General Richard Taylor.
It ended in a Confederate victory and blunted the Union army's campaign along the Red River in north Louisiana.
