BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) A 23-year-old Baton Rouge man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in the 2007 stabbing death of his 17-year-old girlfriend at her apartment.
State District Judge Bonnie Jackson, who convicted Alexander Hooks of manslaughter in April, imposed the maximum sentence Monday in the June 9, 2007, slaying of Bionca Brown.
The Advocate reports Brown suffered several stab wounds to her face, a stab wound to her neck and what prosecutors described as a "long, continuous cut across her throat."
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore called the sentence a fair resolution to the case and said he hopes it gives the victim's family some closure and a chance to move on.
