Baton Rouge man dies after hitting levee off River Road

On Sunday, May 25, Louisiana State Troopers responded to a vehicle that took the life of one man.

Just after 3:30 a.m., 44 year old Jonas E. Heath of Baton Rouge, died from injuries sustained on LA Hwy 327 (River Rd.) north of Ben Hur Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. Heath was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry southbound on River Road when he failed to curve left causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. Once the car was off roadway, the Camry struck the side of the levee and overturned several times.

Heath was wearing a seat belt, and a toxicology sample was taken to determine if alcohol was an element in the crash.
