BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police say a seven-vehicle
wreck - allegedly caused by a drunk driver - injured five people
and blocked Interstate 10 for 70 minutes during rush hour.
Sgt. Don Kelly says none of the injuries appeared
life-threatening.
Kelly says 52-year-old Leroy Fisher of Baton Rouge was arrested
on eight charges including second-offense DWI. He says Fisher's
truck caught fire, but Fisher escaped unhurt.
Kelly said a police officer stopped in traffic saw a pickup
speed by on the shoulder and went after it, but lost sight of it on
an overpass. He says the wrecks apparently started when the driver
tried to merge into slow traffic.
He says a breath test showed Fisher's blood-alcohol level at
0.179 percent, more than double the legal amount.
It was not clear whether Fisher had an attorney.
