We can't enjoy Mardi Gras season without barricades. Here's the warning, they're going up starting today! What does this mean? Two lanes of traffic will turn into one lane on both sides of the road. Work crews will place the barricades at the beginning of the parade route downtown. They will start at the Jefferson and Simcoe Street Intersection and continue to the Vermilion and Johnston Street Intersection. Owner of Bisbano's Pizza says the barricades placed in front of his business is a huge inconvenience every year but he has learned to deal with it and hopes customers realize they're still open for business.
"Lunch will probably kill 50% of the business that will come my normal regular customer based. If I were on a corner, I'd be right on that opening where they open the barricades for cross traffic and I wouldn't have the problem," said George Petro.
Only half of the barricades will go up today. Tomorrow work crews will finish setting up the other half down Johnston Street.
