BENTON, La. (AP) - The U.S. Justice Department says high school students living on Barksdale Air Force Base may attend any of the six public high schools in Bossier Parish.
The Times reports that the department has approved a one-year pilot program. It would decide whether to extend the program based on data provided by the district.
The parish would provide buses only to Bossier High School, which the base is zoned for. Students would have to find their own transportation to the other schools.
Justice Department approval was needed because Bossier Parish schools continue to operate under a racial desegregation order.
