BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A ban on a product called "synthetic
marijuana" has received final passage from the Louisiana
Legislature.
The bill by Gretna Rep. Ricky Templet would prohibit the
manufacture, sale and possession of the product that goes by names
like "K2," "Voodoo," "FIYA" and "Spice." They are sold as
herbal incense but smoked like marijuana - and with similar
effects.
The mixture of herbs and spices is sprayed with a synthetic
compound chemically similar to THC, the psychoactive ingredient in
marijuana, and it's commonly sold in head shops and convenience
stores.
The ban was given final passage Monday with a 32-0 vote of the
state Senate. It heads to Gov. Bobby Jindal's desk.
