MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) - Avoyelles Parish School Board member Lizzie Ned won re-election to a second term in October, but it will be up to the courts to decide if she gets to serve the new term.
The Town Talk reports Ned is the subject of two lawsuits.
The District Attorney's Office is petitioning the district court to declare Ned's seat vacant. Officials say they received a complaint questioning Ned's residency requirements.
A court hearing is set for Nov. 30.
In a separate filing in federal court, the Rev. Charles E. Guillory and Howard Desselles are accusing "certain members" of the school board of plotting to push Ned off the board.
U.S. District Court Judge Dee Drell said he will wait for the lower court's ruling before setting any hearing on the issue.
