NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 48-year-old Avondale woman is facing up to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to theft of government funds.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says Alma Williams entered the plea Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval Jr.
Letten's office says Williams received Social Security disability benefits to which she knew she was not entitled.
Authorities say Williams hid the fact that she was employed. Court documents show that her monthly income was greater than the threshold amount allowed for an individual who was receiving disability benefits. As a result, authorities say Williams illegally received $69,454 in benefits that she knew she was not entitled to.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 21.
