BOGALUSA, La. (AP) - Authorities are investigating what triggered a fish kill on the Pearl River near Bogalusa.
WWL-TV (http://bit.ly/nNLZRl) reported that agencies from Louisiana and Mississippi are trying to find out where a dark liquid on the river came from. It appears to be from a pipeline a few miles upriver from the kill.
Although a cause hasn't been determined, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said a Temple-Inland Inc. paper plant had a problem last week with its waste water plant.
Officials said the effects stretch about 20 miles down the river to near Picayune, Miss.
In a statement, the company said it is working with regulatory agencies investigating potential causes.
