THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office is asking a judge to order a pit bull killed after its unprovoked attack on a 12-year-old Larose boy last week.
The boy's mother also wants the dog to be put to death because of the injuries it inflicted and the danger they say it would continue to pose if allowed to live.
The dog bit the boy on his inner and outer thigh as he rode his bike Sept. 27.
Surgery was performed on his leg at Children's Hospital in New Orleans, and he is expected to make a full recovery, his mother.
A court hearing Monday in District Judge Walt Lanier's court will determine the dog's future. The judge can order the dog be killed or spare it, based on evidence presented.
