NEW ORLEANS | The public voted to name Audubon Aquarium's youngest female penguin chick Hubig in honor of the pie factory that caught fire and burned down in 2012.
More than 3,000 votes were cast in the week-long vote, with 42 percent in favor of naming the penguin after the beloved iconic New Orleans brand, the Simon Hubig Pie Company, which is currently rebuilding its facility.
Hatched in March, Hubig is one of three chicks that recently joined the penguin colony on exhibit. Two of the three chicks have already been named- Marina and Skua. On July 22, the Audubon Animal Husbandry staff invited the world's penguin fans to choose the name of their fuzzy newborn.
