Audit: School Board Made Improper Insurance Payments

An audit of the St. Landry Parish School Board has found the board made improper payments for excess insurance premiums for certain board members. The audit, which was conducted by a local firm, notes that the board's internal controls "failed to prevent expenditures not allowed by state law." The firm recommended to the board that members repay their respective amount immediately. In its response to the audit, the school board says it is awaiting legal opinion before proceeding with the payments.
