NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An audit has found an Orleans Parish Civil District Court fund was off by nearly $340,000 in 2013.
NOLA.com/The Times Picayune reports the accounting problem was found in the Registry of Court Fund, a sort of holding account where litigants park money until their cases are decided and it can be disbursed to the winner.
The report, released by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office, does not suggest that the unaccounted for $340,000 may have been stolen. Instead, it suggests that Civil District Court Dale Atkins' office is making data entry errors as money comes in and out of the account.
This is the second year in a row that an audit found the accounting controls to be lacking. In 2012, the same fund's books were off by nearly $80,000.
