GRAMBLING, La. (AP) - A new audit finds nearly 300 students who unofficially withdrew from Grambling State University may have continued to receive federal student aid during the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters.
The News-Star reports the independent auditor's report reviewed the distribution of federal aid money to students for the year ended June 30, 2012.
Each student received Title IV aid based upon the student's enrollment at the beginning of the semester. However, the audit, released Monday, finds the students did not engage in academic-related activity and/or did not attend some or all of their enrolled classes, which should have reduced their enrollment status and therefore reduced their eligible Title IV aid.
The audit does not determine how many of the 297 students continued to receive aid after unofficially withdrawing from the university.
