An Acadia Parish family had to put the brakes on their Good Friday tradition.
That's after more than $25,000 worth of ATVs and tools were stolen while they were asleep last night.
They were taken from an Iota family's driveway early Friday morning on Mamou Prairie road.
It's a hobby and today they've stolen our hobby."
It's the first time in years that the Thibodeaux family couldn't go mud ridding on Good Friday. On Thursday, they were gearing up their ATVs for the trip. When they woke up at six in morning, the vehicles were gone.
"I was shocked," Jozette's daughter Lacey Thibodeaux said.
The Thibodeaux family says that somehow the thieves got into their truck, took the ATV keys from it, put the bikes in neutral and departed quietly from the property with them.
"Even when you don't think it can, it can happen to you. Cause I was one of those people, I thought it could never happen to me," Lacey Thibodeaux said.
They've lost a lot of money. While their ATVs are a hobby, it's an expensive one.
"We've invested at least $25,000 into these two bikes, over the last couple of years. We are constantly adding to them and making them, and just improving them," Jozette Thibodeaux said.
"People need to be aware that there are people who steal out there and it can happen to you," Lacey Thibodeaux said.
